Mr. Putter gets an old cat to share his life with him.

When he gets too old to climb up the ladder, Mr. Putter and his cat Tabby figure out an ingenious way to pick pears for pear jelly.

On a hot summer day, Mr. Putter, his cat, Tabby, their neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, and her dog, Zeke, go for a picnic and a rowboat ride.

Mr. Putter's neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, decides that they should join a band, but finding the right one isn't as easy as it sounds--for them or their pets.

One day at the fish store, Mr. Putter decides to buy some fish. Tabby is happy. Fish make his tail twitch. At home, Mr. Putter and Tabby watch the fish swim around in their glass bowl. Then Tabby starts to bat the bowl. Bat. Bat. Tabby can't stop batting the bowl, even when Mr. Putter covers it up. Soon, Tabby is so twitchy and batty, Mr. Putter calls Mrs. Teaberry. She has a solution to Tabby's problem, a very relaxing one!

Mr. Putter and Tabby go to their neighbor's house to make soup, but Zeke the dog makes it very difficult for them.

Mr. Putter thinks he is too old to celebrate his birthday, but when he remembers some of his past birthdays, he changes his mind.

When Mr. Putter cannot sleep after eating too many of Mrs. Teaberry's pineapple jelly rolls, he and Tabby take a moonlit stroll that ends with the perfect neighborly gathering.

Although he would rather be sipping an ice cream soda, Mr. Putter and his cat Tabby attend a cooking class with Mrs. Teaberry and her dog Zeke, where they learn 100 ways to cook beans.

While enjoying autumn weather and activities, Mr. Putter, realizing how much he misses going to school, takes his cat Tabby, their adventurous neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, and her cake-loving dog Zeke to "Show and Tell."
